DMARC domain fraud protection: Not sexy. But really important.
Let’s see a show of hands: Who thinks there is nothing they’d rather be doing than making sure that domain-based message authentication, reporting, and conformance (aka DMARC) protocols are properly configured? Anybody? Anybody? No?
Okay, let’s put it this way: Raise your hand if you think it’s critically important for your organization’s outgoing emails to be delivered to their intended recipients—and for your email domain not to be labeled as a source of spam or cyberattacks?
Yeah, DMARC and its domain-fraud-protection cousins SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Email) are no IT admin’s favorite subjects—in fact, most IT people probably get a burst of anxiety whenever they’re mentioned. But, they are critically important to any organization whose operations depend on sending outgoing emails successfully. (That’s everyone, right?)
That’s why you should reserve your spot at an upcoming webinar where you’ll learn all about DMARC and the benefits of doing it right—and about new automated tools like Barracuda Domain Fraud Protection that make it really, really easy.
Requirements got real
For a long time, DMARC configuration was a complex, time-consuming, error-prone chore that lots of organizations—80%, according to this 2019 report—didn’t even bother with.
That was okay at the time. Sure, it meant your domain could easily be spoofed or impersonated by cyber crooks, but as long as your domain wasn’t added to a lot of individual organizations’ blocklists, your legitimate email would mostly get delivered as intended.
But just over a year ago, major email providers like Google, Yahoo, and AOL began strictly enforcing requirements for senders to fully implement and configure DMARC or be bounced (or relegated to the spam folder).
Avoid the S of shame!
The S on Superman’s chest stands for Super. (DC fans, don’t @ me—I know that’s not correct lore.) But if your domain gets marked with an S for spammer, that’s more like a scarlet letter of shame.
Fortunately, getting DMARC right is actually pretty darn easy these days, even if you have very limited IT resources and personnel. Tools and capabilities that automate the process of correctly configuring your domain-fraud-protection protocols are available.
For example, Barracuda Email Protection—our comprehensive, multi-capable email security and data-protection platform—includes Barracuda Domain Fraud Protection.
Even more fortunately, there’s an upcoming webinar where you can see it in action, in a live demo. Plus, you’ll gain all the latest insights and information regarding the rapid increase in spoofing and impersonation attacks, how criminals are exploiting vulnerabilities in SPF and DKIM, and a lot more.
Best of all, if our expert solution architects Thorsten Stoeterau and Michael Townsend do their job right (which they always do), the webinar will help you release any sense of anxiety or stress associated with DMARC configuration. From then on, it’ll be just another easy-peasy task on your checklist.
