Erik van Rooyen wins the 2021 Barracuda Championship

The 2021 Barracuda Championship has come to an end. While we didn’t have quite as many ‘firsts’ like last year, we do have a new champion who won his first PGA Tour with us here at Old Greenwood. Erik van Rooyen won with 50 points, which is “the best winning total since 2012 when the Modified Stableford scoring format was introduced.”

That scoring record aside, Erik joins a long list of competitors who won their first PGA TOUR event at the Barracuda Championship. All past champions since 2016 are first-time PGA TOUR champions. 2015 champion JJ Henry became the only competitor to win the Barracuda Championship twice (2012) since the scoring format was changed. The Barracuda Championship is the only PGA Tour event that uses Modified Stableford scoring.

Giving back at the Barracuda Championship

The Barracuda Championship has a legacy of charitable giving, and as of June 2021, the event has helped The Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation donate $4.6 million to dozens of charities. The amount raised this year will be available on the event website soon.

This year we also partnered with Youth on Course, which provides youth opportunities and access to golf courses across the country.

We hope you were able to enjoy the Barracuda Championship at the course or through media coverage and social media. Next year the event will take place July 11-17, and we’d love to see you there!
