Ransomware attacks are changing, but they continue to be a major threat to companies around the world. Security researchers have found that attacks on business and local government entities are increasing, while attacks against individual consumers are declining. These criminals are focusing their efforts on richer targets that have sensitive line-of-business data, or higher profile missions that cannot be interrupted. These victims are more susceptible to public or stakeholder pressure and are more likely to have insurance that will cover incidents like a ransomware attack.
