As a key provider of security solutions to Microsoft Azure customers, Barracuda today announced the availability of its Web Application Firewall-as-a-Service in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, an online store providing applications and services for use on Azure. Barracuda customers can now take advantage of the productive and trusted Azure cloud platform, with streamlined deployment and management.
Organizations have relied on Barracuda’s CloudGen WAF – including advanced bot protection, proactive DDoS protection, and deep integration with DevOps toolchains – for securing applications in their hybrid/cloud datacenters for years. When they want to migrate applications, or build new apps in the public cloud, and they desire a Software-as-a-Service solution, their options that provide similar levels of control have been limited until now. That has led to under-secured web applications across hybrid environments, despite the original goal of faster time to market, agility, and cost-efficiency.
“The cloud is all about choice and flexibility: License products and solutions as they fit your business, versus traditional solution sales. This, in a nutshell, is why offering our Web Application Firewall-as-a-Service to Microsoft Azure customers is a significant new product for Barracuda,” said Tim Jefferson, VP of Public Cloud at Barracuda.
Barracuda’s WAF-as-a-Service on Azure provides the full functionality of a Web Application Firewall without any of the typical provisioning or setup requirements. Licensing is a simple monthly charge based on the number of IP addresses being protected. As customers migrate workloads to Azure, WAF-as-a-Service brings a layer of protection against common layer 7 vulnerabilities, such as those recognized by OWASP (Top 10, for example), DDoS attacks (although public cloud infrastructures handle those pretty well), zero-day threats, and bots by acting as a reverse proxy. These protections are provided without requiring any understanding of VPCs, security architectures, etc. This simplifies and accelerates customers’ migration to Azure by enabling security without complexity.Barracuda WAF-as-a-Service is now available in the Azure Marketplace, and it offers the same level of control as the CloudGen WAF with all the benefits of SaaS technology.Click To Tweet
WAF-as-a-Service also provides a seamless way for developers building applications natively on Azure to build security directly into the application development lifecycle, without incurring any costs until those applications are actually deployed. Furthermore, as developers continue to build out their applications (and consume more Azure services), they can easily maintain a continuously secure posture. This is because Barracuda’s Vulnerability Service is integrated directly into WAF-as-a-Service and can be configured to scan applications at ongoing intervals.
Customers using WAF-as-a-Service will be able to maintain the same level of control as the CloudGen WAF with all the benefits of adopting SaaS technologies. Integration with popular Azure services such as Azure Security Center will be included in a future update.
