One of the big topics of conversation these days is ransomware – a type of attack where criminals hijack sensitive information and force victims to pay a ransom to release their files. Even after the ransom is paid, the attacker may hijack the same victim again in the future. There's no guarantee that the victim will not be hit again by the same or a different attacker. Ransomware attacks are the fastest growing method of attack this year.

Barracuda recently commissioned a study of enterprise IT users and found that nearly 50% of those surveyed indicated they had been hit by one or more ransomware attacks in the last 12 months. Further exacerbating this problem is the fact that many of these companies do not have proper disaster recovery plans in place to deal with these types of attacks quickly and efficiently.

Barracuda is in a unique position to be able to help customers with these types of attacks. Leveraging our cloud security for email (in Office 365 for example), our Advanced Threat Detection and link protection features are designed to help stop these types of attacks.

Couple that with our data protection solutions, and companies are much better equipped to deal with these types of attacks with minimal impact. A solid backup plan makes the difference in not having to pay a ransom and retrieving stolen data quickly —- or in having to pay a large sum of money or losing files all together.

We see this all the time – customers reaching out to let us know they were hit with ransomware and Barracuda Backup was able to help quickly remediate the situation. This speaks volumes to the complementary nature of Security and Storage – or Security and Data Protection as we call it.

In the last few years, we've witnessed an exponential increase in public cloud usage, user mobility, and the demand for instant access to company data. Many organizations have found themselves maintaining hybrid infrastructures, spanning on-premises and public-cloud resources. Secure remote access and hybrid data protection solutions are critical for company operations.

Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup for Office 365 and Barracuda Essentials for Office 365 can protect the modern workplace.
