The Barracuda Message Archiver version 4.0 was launched as part of our Data Protection Plus initiative. One of the significant new features in this version is the enhanced integration with the Barracuda Cloud. Previously, the Barracuda Message Archiver could only keep data on its own hardware. With BMA version 4.0, customers are now able to leverage cloud-connected archives as disaster recovery or extended storage. Let's take a look at this new feature.
Barracuda Message Archiver version 4.0 allows you to configure mirroring to the Barracuda Cloud. This option replicates all data from the appliance to the cloud, creating a complete copy of the on-premises archive in our cloud infrastructure. Using this option, customers can protect their organizations from data loss due to an event that destroys the archives kept on-premises.
Rotating data to create a second tier of storage
The new cloud integration fully supports policy-based rotation of archives. This means that customers can set policies that move data from the on-premises Barracuda Message Archiver to the Barracuda Cloud. The data in the Barracuda Cloud is indexed and managed by Barracuda Cloud resources, so that the on-premises appliance isn't busy managing cloud data. And the Barracuda Message Archiver version 4.0 allows customers to set different retention policies for the cloud and the on-premises appliance. Keep everything from the last 6 months on-site and move everything else to the cloud for 7 years. It's easy to automate that process with the new BMA.
